 Description

Seeking an experienced FinOps Specialist with strong data analysis and cloud financial management capabilities to support the analysis, reconciliation, and optimization of technology spend across multiple cloud and technology vendors.

The role will focus on bringing together large and complex datasets from different vendors and internal sources, identifying trends and cost drivers, improving allocation and reporting, and translating data into actionable financial and operational insights.

The successful candidate should be highly analytical and comfortable working with large datasets from different sources, where data structures, terminology, billing models, and levels of granularity may vary significantly.

Responsibilities

    • Analyze large volumes of billing, usage, consumption, pricing, and utilization data from multiple technology and cloud vendors.
    • Consolidate and normalize data across vendors to provide a consistent view of technology consumption and spend.
    • Develop methodologies for comparing costs and consumption across vendors with different pricing and billing structures.
    • Reconcile vendor billing data against internal financial, procurement, contract, and consumption records.
    • Identify data inconsistencies, gaps, duplicate charges, unexpected movements, and other anomalies.
    • Establish repeatable approaches for mapping vendor data to applications, business units, cost centres, products, and other organizational dimensions.

FinOps & Cost Management

    • Perform detailed analysis of cloud and technology spending to identify key cost drivers, trends, and optimization opportunities.
    • Support cost allocation, chargeback, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
    • Analyze actual spend against budgets, forecasts, contracts, and expected consumption.
    • Identify underutilized services, unexpected consumption patterns, pricing opportunities, and potential cost savings.
    • Track identified savings opportunities through to realization and provide reporting on financial impact.
    • Support analysis of vendor pricing models, contractual commitments, discounts, and consumption-based agreements.
    • Develop unit-cost and consumption metrics to improve understanding of the relationship between technology usage and business activity.

Data Management and Reporting

    • Combine data from cloud providers, SaaS vendors, internal financial systems, procurement systems, CMDB/application inventories, and other enterprise data sources.
    • Work with large datasets using tools such as SQL, Excel, Power BI, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar analytical platforms.
    • Develop dashboards and reporting that provide clear visibility into spend, consumption, allocation, trends, forecasts, and optimization opportunities.
    • Establish data-quality checks and reconciliation processes to improve confidence in FinOps reporting.
    • Develop standardized datasets and reporting structures that allow different vendors and services to be analyzed consistently.
    • Reduce reliance on manual spreadsheet-based processes by developing repeatable analytical workflows where appropriate.

Vendor and Stakeholder Analysis

    • Work with Finance, Procurement, Technology, Cloud Platform, Application, and Vendor Management teams to understand technology consumption and associated costs.
    • Support vendor reviews by providing detailed analysis of historical spend, consumption trends, commitments, and future demand.
    • Evaluate vendor-provided reports and challenge or validate assumptions using underlying consumption and financial data.
    • Support contract renewals and commercial discussions by providing data-driven analysis of utilization, pricing, growth trends, and potential scenarios.
    • Translate complex vendor billing and consumption data into clear insights for technical, financial, and senior management stakeholders.

Requirements

    • Strong experience in FinOps, technology financial management, cloud cost management, vendor analytics, or financial/data analysis.
    • Demonstrated experience analyzing large and complex datasets from multiple sources.
    • Strong SQL and advanced Excel skills, with the ability to manipulate, reconcile, and analyze large datasets.
    • Experience with visualization and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent platforms.
    • Experience analyzing cloud billing and consumption data from AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or other major technology vendors.
    • Strong understanding of consumption-based pricing, cloud billing structures, commitments, discounts, and cost allocation.
    • Experience reconciling financial and operational data across systems with different data structures and definitions.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns, anomalies, trends, and underlying cost drivers.
    • Ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

    • FOCP FinOps Certified Practitioner or similar FinOps certification.
    • Experience working with multi-cloud and multi-vendor technology environments.
    • Experience with SaaS, infrastructure, software licensing, data platforms, or other consumption-based technology services.
    • Experience supporting vendor negotiations, contract renewals, or commercial analysis.
    • Familiarity with the FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS).
    • Experience with forecasting, scenario modelling, and cost optimization.
    • Working knowledge of Python or other scripting languages for data manipulation and automation is beneficial but not a primary requirement.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a strong FinOps and data analyst who is comfortable making sense of complex information from multiple vendors and systems.

They should be able to take data that does not naturally align—for example, cloud consumption data, vendor invoices, contracts, financial records, application ownership information, and forecasts—and create a reliable and understandable view of technology spend.

The individual should be particularly strong at answering questions such as:

    • What are we spending, and with which vendors?
    • What is driving the change in spend?
    • Can we reconcile consumption to what we are being billed?
    • Which applications or business areas are driving the costs?
    • Are we receiving the expected value from our contractual commitments?
    • Where are the anomalies, inefficiencies, or optimization opportunities?
    • How is consumption likely to affect future spend?
    • What information should we bring into upcoming vendor negotiations or renewals?

Note: As part of our hiring process, we use AI-based systems to support initial applicant screening.
