DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a Senior Python / SQL Engineer to join the Risk Division of a major investment management organization.
This role is focused on supporting a large scale migration from legacy Oracle database platforms to Snowflake and Azure Cloud. The successful candidate will work closely with Risk and Technology teams to repoint applications, reporting assets, and data processes from Oracle to Snowflake while ensuring continuity of business critical risk management functions.
This is a hands on technical role requiring strong experience with Python, SQL, Oracle databases, stored procedures, and Snowflake. The successful candidate will help modernize existing risk systems, update database integrations, convert SQL logic, support Power BI reporting migrations, and participate in testing and validation activities throughout the migration process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Repoint existing Risk applications, reporting assets, and business processes from Oracle databases to Snowflake
• Analyze and modify Python and C# applications that currently depend on Oracle databases and stored procedures
• Convert, rewrite, and optimize Oracle SQL and PL/SQL logic for Snowflake environments
• Support migration and modernization initiatives involving enterprise risk systems
• Work closely with Technology teams to understand Snowflake data models, refresh schedules, and data dependencies
• Support Power BI dashboard and reporting migrations from Oracle data sources to Snowflake
• Perform testing, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and validation activities to ensure data accuracy and process continuity
• Investigate and resolve database connectivity, query performance, and application related issues
• Document technical changes, migration activities, testing results, and operational procedures
• Collaborate with risk professionals, developers, and technical stakeholders throughout the migration lifecycle
• Participate in planning sessions, technical discussions, and production readiness reviews
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of software development, database development, or data engineering experience
• Strong hands on experience with Python and SQL
• Experience working with Oracle databases including Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, and stored procedures
• Experience developing, supporting, or enhancing database driven applications
• Experience working with Snowflake and modern cloud based data platforms
• Experience with database migration, modernization, or data platform transition projects
• Experience reading and updating C# application code
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem solving skills
• Experience testing, validating, and reconciling migrated data and application outputs
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with technical and non technical stakeholders
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT
- Role supports multiple teams within the Risk Division
• Primary focus is Oracle to Snowflake migration and application repointing
• Largest migration effort involves a significant C# based Capital Markets Risk application
• Additional work will involve smaller Python based risk applications
• Strong Oracle expertise is considered more important than direct Snowflake migration experience
• C# knowledge is required, but candidates do not need to be senior level C# developers
• Financial services experience is considered an asset rather than a requirement
• Technical assessment consists of Python and SQL testing
• Interview process includes a technical assessment followed by an in person technical interview
• Standard business hours with no early market hours requirement
• Hybrid model requires 4 days per week onsite in Toronto
• Target start date is September 2026
